Sensitive Interface
Boulogne-BillancourtAt the heart of Boulogne-Billancourt lies a place suspended in time, an almost hidden plot set back from the Seine riverfront, shaped by the memory of a former château park and the quiet presence of ornamental trees. Freed following the departure of a medico-social facility, the site does not appear as a void to be filled, but as a landscape to be revealed. An urban gem where architecture and nature, intimacy and collectivity, memory and future can come into dialogue. To live here is, first and foremost, to inhabit a landscape. This is the starting point of the project. On the edge of the Albert Kahn departmental park, and facing the emblematic development of buildings set within nature conceived by Benoît and Mayer, our approach rejects the imposition of an architectural object. The aim is not to create an autonomous presence, but to compose an active landscape transparency. The 86 homes planned, including 30% social housing, are not intended to form a new built frontage, but rather an inhabited setting: a gentle interface between the city and the park, between the established urban fabric and the protected living ground.
Our founding gesture is to open the park to the city. Rather than creating an enclave, we seek continuity, passages, and permeability. Three buildings, each comprising around thirty homes and arranged according to a dynamic geometry, punctuate the site. Their moderate height — ground floor, two upper levels, and a recessed attic — creates diagonal views and visual connections extending through the development, from the street to the wooded heart of the site. This transparency is not simply something to be perceived, but something to be experienced. At the entrance from the street, the buildings are partially raised on pilotis, allowing the landscape to flow beneath their volumes, so that the journey home begins with a passage through vegetation. Natural stone from the Paris Basin, used both for the ground surfaces and façades, anchors the project in the geology of the site and creates a mineral thread that guides residents along their path. This project embodies a conviction: architecture is not a boundary, but a sensitive interface. We are not building on a landscape, but with it and for it. We are not developing the site; we are making space for it.
