Building a street
ParisThe long, linear project site is punctuated by the arrangement of four buildings accommodating the housing and retail program. This layout addresses the required programmatic density while working with scale relationships, views, and transparency. Along the Passage de Châteaudun, the volumes are thus broken down, creating three visual breakthroughs that reveal the interior courtyard from the public realm. In the heart of the block, the landscaped design is organized around pedestrian paths that wind through the garden, weaving between trees and private gardens. The project thus creates a neighborhood hub centered around the redevelopment of the Passage de Châteaudun and aims to propose a dynamic, cohesive building height profile (épannelage) that harmonizes with the surrounding and neighboring architecture.
The project expresses different architectural typologies: an architecture emphasized by a base (plinth) featuring a carefully tinted light and dark glazed concrete urban design; each level features loggias on the best-exposed facades, this providing the apartments with true functional outdoor spaces; and a stepped terrace architecture (attics) for the upper levels, where each level consists of large continuous balconies of varying depths. “The project thus creates a neighborhood hub centered around the redevelopment of the Passage de Châteaudun and aims to propose a dynamic, cohesive building height profile that harmonizes with the surrounding and neighboring architecture.”
