Origami XXL
ParisThis building is part of the development of a new Parisian district in the north of the capital. Located on a former railway brownfield site belonging to the Gare Saint-Lazare, the site was originally home to France’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games. The failure of this ambition nonetheless gave rise to a large-scale urban development quite exceptional for Paris: fifty-four hectares (urban planner François Grether) featuring a park (landscape architect Jacqueline Osty) and architecture designed by top-tier contemporary firms.
Initiated by developers Ogic and Demathieu & Bard at the edge of this new urban territory, very close to the railway tracks, the Allure project was led in partnership with ITAR Architectures.
Three volumes unfold in polyphony across a nearly triangular plot: a 50-meter tower (Ground Floor + 15), a Ground Floor + 7 building, and nine townhouses.
These three entities with vastly different scales emerge from the ground by unfolding, reflecting the angular geometry of the original site (in plan view).
The project revisits a construction method that has the advantage of optimizing the insulation process and supporting the concept of a pre-designed envelope: the insulating concrete formwork (ICF) wall with integrated insulation.

The expertise of the Jousselin company enabled collaborative work on the architectural prefabrication process at the project scale, thereby anticipating the construction phase. The rhythmic approach applied to the tower’s exteriors stems directly from this: on the west and east sides, the facades vibrate thanks to lively outdoor spaces—an interlocking arrangement of balconies, some reaching 2.8 meters in depth, which give the illusion of a giant folding game—while on the north and south sides, which are noticeably smoother, the walls incorporate panoramic windows generously open to the landscape.
“The silhouette of this giant origami is primarily linked to the site’s constraints. The architecture plays with the triangular shape of the plot to offer housing units that all feature outdoor spaces and a double or even triple exposure. Wherever you are, you are immersed in the context.”
