Penser avec son paysage naturel

France, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat
The project is guided by principles of restraint, reversibility, and sensitivity to the natural setting of Anse de la Scaletta, located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.An exceptional site, where the beach of Anse de la Scaletta must reclaim its natural character — a place where nature remains unspoiled, open, and welcoming. The Scaletta Pavilion embodies this ambition for discretion and harmony. While the introduction of a few amenities may enhance the appeal of the site, they must be carefully integrated within a clearly defined framework that respects the spirit of the place. We have chosen a temporary architecture that recedes into the landscape. The Scaletta Pavilion does not impose itself; it rests gently upon the site. It inhabits the shoreline with a delicate, measured gesture. Its volume, lines, and materiality are designed to engage in a dialogue with the surroundings, without ever dominating them.Every aspect of its design seeks to convey a sense of lightness. Both the pavilion and its accompanying furniture will be subtly elevated above the ground, barely touching the surface, as though suspended above the pebbles. This subtle detail reinforces the impression of a temporary, reversible, almost floating presence.
We draw inspiration from the understated elegance of the 1960s: a folding wooden deckchair, a picnic basket, and the simple pleasure of settling on an unspoiled beach, between light and horizon. A modest yet essential form of luxury. The Scaletta Pavilion thus offers a gentle transition between the built environment and nature, between use and contemplation. An invitation to experience the sea without ever constraining it. A respectful presence, designed to serve a landscape we wish to preserve as much as share.Beyond the quality of its integration into the landscape, the key challenges of this project lie in the modules’ ability to be transported overland, dismantled, and reused, while meeting accessibility requirements and ensuring the preservation of the coastline. The proposed structure is designed for temporary installation over a nine-month period in a demanding coastal environment (sand, salt, wind, humidity, and sun), while ensuring optimal functionality, ease of handling, and efficient logistics.Inspired by event installation techniques, the structure is nevertheless engineered to offer enhanced resistance to outdoor conditions, with an estimated capacity to withstand more than 40 assembly and disassembly cycles.
